"Syncing" SMS from iPhone to Mac has been added.
The Links to the iPhone have also improved at iOS 8 and after. The "Display on all Devices" has improved along the way. Some of those iChat things have since gone:-įormatting messages both as Choice of Bubble, Font and text Colour and as a Menu choice.Īlerts In the Preferences where different Sounds could be set to play for different actions, down to specific Buddies if required. It is true that at that point it was mostly the iChat App with the iMessages Account added in and an new interface for the Chat window. Messages as a new app was added at OS X 10.8 Also, the caching of numbers that is not added to contact should be removed, or at the very least be possible to over-ride when explicitly entering a number in the Message app. The location of the user should not impact the ability to send SMS messages, regardless of present location. So if any Apple tech is reading this: Message app on both iOS and OSX have an ugly bug regarding country codes. That is what happen to my contacts that i could no longer send SMS to. It is impossible to get rid of this cached number. 2) Once a number have been entered without country code, Message app caches the number - with incorrect country code.
However, if i force the country code to my current location, sending as SMS is no longer available, only iMessage can be used. After this happens, SMS is enabled (though, the number is wrong of course). The only way to fix this is to change location as described above.īefore finding this, i noticed a few leads to what was going on: 1) when creating a new message and manually entering a new number without country code, it automatically adds the "+46" Swedish country code. As it is now, trying to send SMS messages locally when you are abroad causes a lot of head aches - some numbers will work, others not - depending on how the number was initially entered (see below). Apparently, this causes the Message app to bug out. Turns out that Preferences|Accounts|Details|Location was set to "Sweden", while I'm currently in another country.
Check and uncheck an option or two while watching the ~/Library/Preferences/ folder.Open Messages and select “Messages > Preferences” from the menu bar.If you don’t see iChat or Messages plists, change the display to sort by list, then click the “Date Modified” option to sort the plist files by when they change. From the Finder, hit Command+Shift+G to bring up Go To Folder and enter ~/Library/Preferences/.Sometimes they can get glitchy and have to be deleted, so a proper list can automatically replace them. It contains properties and configuration settings for various apps. A plist file is a settings file, also known as a “properties file,” used by macOS applications. Note: If the option to lock your “login” Keychain is grayed out, check its settings in ‘Edit > Change Settings for Keychain “login”…’Īnd here’s one more thing to try before contacting Apple’s tech support: delete some plist files.
